The University Counseling Service
Sewanee provides free time-limited professional counseling for students seeking confidential assistance with academic, social, emotional or interpersonal concerns. Call 598-1325 for an appointment or the campus police (598-1111) to page the counselor on duty after hours.
The University Counseling Service coordinates support services for ADHD and other learning differences. Previously diagnosed students are encouraged to make an appointment and bring the diagnostic report and educational recommendations. With appropriate documentation, a letter describing appropriate support services will be given to the student. The student presents this letter to professors at the beginning of each semester when seeking arrangements for
accommodation.
Any student who has questions about a previous diagnosis, or suspects undiagnosed learning differences, should call 598-1325 to seek clarification and referrals for assessment. No adverse prejudicial judgment will be made upon contact.
The University Health Service
Students needing medical attention should call 598-1270 during business hours to be seen by a nurse practitioner or registered nurse or to be referred to a consulting physician. Tuition covers these visits, but not medication, immunization, x-rays, laboratory and ambulance fees, emergency room service or hospitalization. There is an emergency room and heliport at the hospital in Sewanee and a regional medical center 12 miles away in Winchester.
Students needing a special diet or assistance with a physical disability should take appropriate documentation to the University Health Service so that necessary accommodations may be arranged.
