General Education Course Form


This form is for courses that fulfill students' distribution requirements and have previously been approved for inclusion in the Catalog.  It aims to bring our general education program into alignment with the requirement  from SACS that we specify college-level competencies and develop ways to assess those competencies.




Read critically and interpret literary works in English
Use the methods of the physical or life sciences to examine the natural world
Understand the nature of mathematical inquiry
Create, perform or analyze works of visual or performing arts
Think analytically about the past using the sources and methods of historical inquiry
Understand concepts and methods of studying human behavior culture society
Use a foreign or classical language to apprehend another cultural world
Examine philosophical texts or religious texts and practices



The syllabus for this course should state that:
  • It fulfills the distribution requirement in X

  • At least one assignment will be used to assess this competency
