Teacher of the Year Award

The Society of Sewanee Scholars, an organization of those who receive academic (merit) scholarships, recognize one faculty member every spring as Sewanee's Teacher of the Year.  The Society plants a tree as a living recognition of this achievement.

2007 Teacher of the Year

David G. Haskell
Associate Professor of Biology

Several nominators cited Haskell's ability to engage students in and outside of the classroom and laboratory and the example that he and his family set by organically producing much of the food they eat.  Professor Haskell, an expert in ornithology, delighted the Society at the award dinner with a talk in which everyone present learned to identify by sight and sound six Sewanee birds.
