THE BIOCHEMISTRY MAJOR The following schedule is an example of how students may progress through the major. Chemistry Department faculty are available for help with customizing plans for individual student needs. Ideal for students that are interested in a business, law, or health professional (medical, veterinary, dental, or pharmacy) program or biochemistry graduate school upon graduation from Sewanee.
· For General Distribution requirements, choose from the following[††] o English 101 o History 100 o Philosophy or Religion course o Art & Performing Arts course (Art, Art History, Music, Theatre) o Social Science course (Anthropology, Economics, Political Science) o Foreign Language course at 300-level · General Distribution requirements, as well as two Physical Education courses, must be completed by the junior year. [*] Well-prepared students with a strong background in Chemistry may enroll in Chem 102 in the fall semester. [†] Math course placement determined before Freshman registration. [‡] Students who are near the completion of their General Distribution requirements are encouraged to perform research during the school year. A research project must be completed for Honors consideration. [§] Students must complete one of the following courses: Inorganic Chemistry (Chem 308) or Chemical Analysis (Chem 311). [**] Students must complete two of the following courses: Genetics (Biol 301), Cellular Biology (Biol 321), Immunology (Biol 330), and Advanced Biochemistry (Chem 417). [††] Students completing the Humanities sequence receive credit for four college course requirements (English 101, History 100, philosophy/religion, & fine arts). |
