Cleveland Hall
History
Built in 1956, Cleveland Hall is one of the most centrally located buildings on campus. For the 2008-2009 academic year, Cleveland will serve as a coed dormitory. Located on University Avenue across from the University Bookstore, the Tiger Pantry, and the Globe Cafe, Cleveland provides quick access to central campus. Cleveland houses sixty students, of whom roughly half are first-year students. Cleveland Hall was refurbished during the summer of 2006 -- the project included with new furniture, carpeting and paint.
Layout and Design
The large foyer is stone floored with a central table and several loveseats. This area is used for dorm breakfasts and as a second common room, for entertaining guests, and for studying away from the television. The common room is furnished like a large living room with sofas, easy chairs, cable television, fitted carpet, paintings, fireplace, and a wall of windows looking into woods.
The first and second floors contain three-room suites consisting of two bedrooms, each approximately 12 feet by 10 feet, and a central study room, measuring 9 1/4 feet by 14 feet. Each room has a large window, measuring 5 feet square. Each bedroom has a large, built-in chest with drawers and mirror. Most rooms have an additional five-drawer chest. The walls are Magnolia white, and the carpet is blue-green-mix. There are two commons bathrooms on each floor.
The third floor has a variety of single rooms, some large and some small, and is in high demand by seniors and juniors. The rooms have the same Magnolia white walls and blue-green carpet. The basement contains a large room with washing and drying machines, as well as kitchen equipment. There is a separate study/recreational room and a large bicycle room with an external entrance. There are storage closets on each floor.
Additional Information
The beds in Cleveland are 75" long. Students are asked not to bring metal frame futon furniture as it often causes significant damage in students' rooms.
Cleveland Hall students rooms are not air-conditioned. A fan is highly recommended! Foyer and Common Room are air-conditioned.
