Elliott Hall
History
Formerly the home of the Sewanee Inn, Elliott Hall offers housing to 55 men from all classes in the College. Built in 1922, Elliott still bears a strong resemblance to the Inn. Elliott was renovated in the summer of 2004 with new paint, carpet, furniture, wireless internet access, and air-conditioning.
Layout and Design
The old ballroom, located on the first floor of the west wing, was converted into first-year student doubles, complete with lofts. The east wing, which served as the rooms of the Inn, has been converted into singles and doubles, some arranged as suites, some sharing a hall bathroom. These rooms on the first, second, and third floor are very popular among upperclassmen. Located on University Avenue, Elliott is a short distance from the University Bookstore, the Tiger Pantry, and the Globe Cafe.
Elliott has two common rooms, one located in the foyer. It serves as a sitting room and features a large stone fireplace. The second common room is located on the second floor balcony and overlooks the foyer. This common room has comfortable couches, a television, and VCR. A full kitchen is located on the first floor, and a gas grill and picnic table sit near the main entrance. The beautiful front lawn is often filled with frisbee-throwing young men.
Additional Information
Beds in Elliott are 84" long except in the freshmen lofts, where beds are 75". There is approximately 14" of storage space under each bed. Students are asked not to bring metal frame futon furniture as it often causes significant damage to students' rooms.
