Emery Hall

The Ecohouse at the University of the South is a residency option that was conceived of, designed, and implemented by students. Sewanee facilitates a special application process and offers a small dorm for members to live in. The purpose of the Ecohouse is to provide a place for like-minded students to practice environmentally friendly living and to raise environmental awareness on campus. Our overall goals are to live as efficiently as possible, to be an example of environmental stewardship, and to actively engage ourselves within the community in order to educate and inspire faculty, staff, and students. Ecohouse activities include organic dinners, fund-raisers for local environmental projects, environmental education programs, and an organic garden.

The Ecohouse provides housing for eight upperclass as the third part of the Hodgson zone. Containing four singles and two doubles, it offers a unique and close-knit living environment. Residents of the Ecohouse are assisted by the dorm staffs of Hodgson and Phillips. All resident rooms are located on the main floor of the building, with kitchen, laundry, and common room area located in the basement, which is easily accessed from the back of the building.
