Humphreys Hall

History
Humphreys Hall opened in the fall of 2003 as the first new residence hall to be built on campus since 1968. It is named in honor of alumnus David Humphreys, C'79, and his wife, Debra, who provided a gift to help make the project a reality. The lodge style building constructed with the traditional fieldstone exterior houses 118 men and women.  Humphreys is located on the corner of Georgia and Mississippi Avenues, just down the street from Stirlings Coffee House.

Layout and Design
Humphreys Hall has a mix of suite style rooms consisting of single, double or triple rooms in a variety of sizes. This design provides housing for all classes. There are 39 doubles, 2 triples and 34 singles; all singles are arranged in suites with a furnished living room.

Common areas include two TV rooms, a large mission style living room with an expansive stone fireplace, five study rooms, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area and outdoor spaces to include a large front porch complete with rocking chairs and a patio for outdoor dining and relaxing.

The décor of Humphreys Hall features a lively southwestern color scheme with mission style furnishings. The individual student rooms are painted with neutral off white walls and have carpeting in dark variegated tones. This fully air-conditioned facility has thermostatic controls in each room and is fully networked for high-speed internet access. Each room features custom built wardrobes and enclosed blinds in the dual pane windows. The many modern amenities blend well with the traditional Sewanee style to make an ideal environment conducive to study and relaxation in an elegant setting.

Additional Information
Beds in Humphreys at 80" long and have up to 24" of storage space beneath them.  Students are asked not to bring metal frame futon furniture as it often causes significant damage to students' rooms.
