History
Built in 1953, Hunter Hall provided a unique living experience to 43 Sewanee women from 1979 until 2008. In the fall of 2008, Hunter will become a co-ed dorm. Centrally located across from Elliott Hall on University Avenue, the two-story building is mostly made up of triples, three bedroom suites with a single bathroom.
Layout and Design
Each triple opens into a central room with one room off to each side. The center room may be used as a study for the suite or each student may have a room of their own. The rooms have white walls and blue carpeting. The center room measures 12 feet by 12 feet, and the two side rooms measure 8 feet by 14 feet.
Each side room has two closets, a window (measuring 36 inches by 60 inches), with window sills about 7 1/2 inches deep. The resident of the center room will use a closet in one of the side rooms.
The commons room is located on the first floor and offers comfortable couches, chairs, television, and VCR/DVD. The kitchen and laundry areas are located in the basement. A picnic table is located under the shade in the front yard.
Additional Information
The beds in Hunter are 75" long and have approximately 14" of storage space under each of them. Students are asked not to bring metal frame futon furniture as it often causes significant damage to students' rooms.
Hunter Hall is not air-conditioned. A fan is highly recommended!
