History Saint Luke's Hall is one of the oldest buildings on campus. Built in 1887, St. Luke's was once the home of the Seminary and served as a classroom building, faculty offices, and residence hall. Overlooking Manigault Park and University Avenue, St. Luke's is also adjacent to St. Luke's Chapel, the Bishop's Common, and Hoffman Hall.
Layout and Design St. Luke's is a newly renovated co-ed residence hall. It houses 103 students from all classes in suite style doubles, regular doubles with their own bathrooms, and stand alone singles and suites for seniors accommodating three or four singles or 2 double rooms all sharing their own common room and bathroom .
Three TV lounges are centrally located on the first, second and fourth floor. The Oratory on the first floor, which previously served as a seminar classroom, has been preserved in its original state with grand architectural features including vaulted ceilings and arched windows. It will now be utilized as a comfortable study lounge with a section of seminar style seating perfect for interactive discussions and group projects. A kitchen with a breakfast area, a laundry room, and Head Resident apartment are all located on the first floor. Each floor also has a room for recycling. St. Luke's is air conditioned, wireless, and for convenience has an elevator. The large patio on the back end of the building will be popular among the residents as well as the front patio overlooking Manigault Park.
Additional Information The beds in St. Luke's are 80" long with up to 24" of storage space underneath each of them. Students may not bring metal frame futon furniture as it often causes signigicant damage to students' rooms.
The first floor is designated as substance free housing. Students who choose to live in substance free agree not to use alcohol, tobacco, or other substances in their rooms, and all students agree not to return to their room if they are under the influence of alcohol or another substance. Like all other residence halls, St. Luke's is smoke free.
