Who are Assistant Proctors, and what do they do?
The Assistant Proctor is an integral part of the first-year student orientation process and the residence hall staff. Working throughout the year with the academic advisors, the Assistant Proctors help first-year students adjust to the academic and social life at Sewanee. In addition, the Assistant Proctors support the Proctors in creating and maintaining a comfortable and positive atmosphere in the residence halls. They also have the important responsibility of enforcing University policies. Assistant Proctors work under the supervision of the Deans of Students, the Director of Residential Life, and the Head Assistant Proctors, while the Proctors and Head Residents offer additional support and guidance.
Who is eligible to apply?
* Must be full-time student in good academic standing with the College during the entire period of appointment. (APs should have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for the preceding two semesters or have made significant progress in their academic performance).
* Must be sophomores or juniors when they assume their responsibilities.
* Must have lived in a residence hall at the University of the South at least one semester of the year prior to appointment.
* Must be in good standing for conduct at the time of appointment and maintain a good conduct record throughout the duration of the appointment period.
* Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills.
