University Proctor Application

 

Who are Proctors and what do they do?
The position of a University Proctor is both an honor and a great responsibility.  Proctors are student members of the administration who work under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, the Director of Residential Life, and Head Proctors to create civil and respectful residential environments that enhance student academic experiences. Proctors promote educational and social programs in their dorms, enforce dorm policies and regulations, oversee the Assistant Proctors, and serve as leaders throughout the campus community.

Who is eligible to apply?
* Members of the class of 2009 and 2010 who are full-time students in good academic standing. 
* Students who have a grade point average of at least 2.25 for the preceding two semesters.
* Applicants must have lived in a residential hall at the University of the South at least one semester of the year prior to appointment. 
* At the time of appointment,  students must be in good standing for conduct and maintain a good conduct record throughout the duration of the appointment period.

* Second year proctors will receive an additional $150 stipend per semester.

How does the selection process work?
Students interested in a Proctor position should submit an:
1.  Online Proctor Application Form;
2.  Resume (For help with your resume please call the Office of Career Services at ext.  1121);
3.  A Cover letter (no more than one single-spaced page) addressing the following questions:

* What experiences during your time at Sewanee have led you to be interested in being a  Proctor?

*What attributes, skills, and insights make you confident that you would be a good Proctor?

*What aspects of the Proctor position would be particularly challenging for you? 

*What goals or vision do you have for a residential community? How would you be particularly well equipped to meet those goals?

4.  Recommendation form to be completed by one of your current proctors;
5.  Recommendation form to be completed by your current head resident; 
6.  Recommendation form to be completed by a professor.  

The selection process begins in February.  Upon receipt of a complete application, applicants will be contacted to schedule an individual interview and particpate in a group interview.  Applications are due by 4:30pm on Monday, February 11 in the Office of Residential Life.  Proctor appointments will be made by letter on Tuesday, March 4.
