Each residence hall room is furnished with a twin-sized bed, desk and chair, chest, bookcase, and closet space for each student. We recommend waiting to purchase bedding until you have received your housing assignment because some residence halls have standard length beds while others have extra-long beds.
After you receive your housing assignment, you will receive a letter from your Assistant Proctor (AP). Your AP may have additional suggestions for items to bring or leave at home. When you learn who your roommate is in late July, you may want to coordinate who will bring what, so as not to crowd your room with duplicate appliances and other items.
Things NOT to bring to your residence hall:
Metal frame futon furniture (it often causes significant damage to walls in students' rooms)
Candles
Incense and other fire safety hazards (including but not limited to hot plates and toasters)
Pets (including fish)
Large and/or Loud Speakers (take up a lot of space)
Firearms or other weapons

High Efficiency "HE" Laundry Detergent and Dryer Sheets. "HE" detergent is best for our front-loading washing machines. (If you don't know how to do your own laundry, you need to learn before leaving home!)
If you live close to home, you can bring more winter things to Sewanee at a later time (or ask your parents to mail them or bring them on Family Weekend). If not, you may store two large boxes of your winter clothes in your dorm.
