ART HISTORY (department page)

Prospective art history majors typically begin their study by completing the year-long Survey of Western Art. The first semester, Survey of Western Art I, begins with prehistoric culture and extends through the Gothic period. This course is normally offered in the Advent (fall) semester. Survey of Western Art II addresses art of the Renaissance through Modern periods and is usually one of our Easter (spring) semester courses, though it is occasionally offered in the Advent or Summer terms as well. The Survey courses are required of all majors except those who earned a 5 on the AP Art History Exam. Any student who has received a 5 on the AP exam may enroll directly in upper-division courses.
