Class of 2012 - The Sewanee Scene


Welcome to Sewanee!  The hard part is over -you've applied, been admitted and chosen Sewanee as your home for the next four years, and we are excited!

Before you arrive on the Mountain, we need you to do a few things.  Below is a checklist of things that you will need to do before you join us in August.  Please pay specific attention to the dates by which you need to complete forms, exams and readings.  We will use the information you provide for us through the tasks below will help us best prepare for your arrival.

(Transfer students also need complete all forms.)


By June 2, 2008

  1. Activate your Sewanee email account  (The University will send you "New Student Survival Guide" with instructions about how to activate your email account.  Enclosed will be a sticker on the inside cover with your email address and password.)
  2. Complete the Living and Learning form  (This form will helps us match you with a roommate and an advisor, and it will help us place you in your first academic course.)
  3. Complete the foreign language placement exam (You must take a placement exam before you will be allowed to register for classes.)
  4. Complete the Sewanee ID Form (Requires a digital picture in jpg format, saved as your last name, followed by your first and middle initials - for example SmithHE.jpg for Hannah Elizabeth Smith.) 

By June 16, 2008

  1. Begin to research academic classes you want to take this fall.  (Over the Summer you will register for 2 academic courses.)
  2. Read "Eight Keys to Academic Success."
  3. Read "Yea, Sewanee's Green"

By July 2, 2008

  1. Register for the “PRE” Orientation (optional) with the Sewanee Outing Program
    See page 6 of this booklet for more information on PRE and the SOP.
  2. Complete the Consent to Communicate form
  3. Complete the University Health Service forms (enclosed in survival booklet or download pdf files below)

By July 31, 2008

  1. Read instructions on how to register for classes.
  2. Activate your Sewanee Banner student account (You will receive an email with instructions after you activate your email account.)

By August 2, 2008

  1. Register for two academic classes. You may also register for one physical education course
  2. Submit Essay Responsees to the Summer Reading -  (More info on the book)
  3. Car and Bike Registration (Optional: Only needed if you have a car or bike. Parking policy.)
  4. Career Interest Form (Form requires Sewanee email/password, please wait until one is assigned (more info on Career Services.)
  5. Contact your roommate (Optional: It is just a suggestion that student contact their roommate prior to the first day.  You will be informed of your roommate and housing assignment during the last week in July.)

By August 20, 2008

Arrival Day for PRE Orientation students (optional)

Arrival Day: August 23, 2008

Deadline to arrive, unpack and settle into your new home (Move in begins at 1:00 PM, please no early arrivals.) Orientation begins on Saturday, August 23, late afternoon.
Most of this information can be submitted online and the more promptly you complete this information, the easier it is for us to prepare for your arrival.  So, thank you in advance for your assistance.
