FINANCIAL

Sewanee Card
You may obtain the SEWANEECard, the official University of the South identification card from TTIS. The SEWANEECard works like an identification card, meal card, library card, copy card, and key access card all rolled into ONE.  (For more information about the SEWANEECard and additional features).

Banks
Region’s Bank has a branch office in Sewanee located on University Avenue along two ATM machines.  One ATM is located at the branch near the downtown area and the other is on central campus in front of the Tiger Pantry.

TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATION

Computers
The three most important features to look for in a new computer are (1) RAM, (2) CPU speed, and (3) disk storage. Click here for more details on what to buy.  We support PC and Mac.  Your RCC, Resident Computer Consultant, are another valuable resource when you arrive.  Sewanee faculty, staff and students are often eligible for educational discounts with many companies (like Dell and Apple).

Cell Phone Service
ATT Mobile receives the best service of all cell phone carriers on the Mountain.  However, other carriers like Verizon receive some service in the area and fair service in the surrounding towns of Monteagle and Winchester.

Voice Mail
Every student has a voice mailbox which they can access from any phone.  Therefore students need not bring an answering machine.  Also, all dorm rooms have phones.

Calling Card
You can either use calling cards for long distance calls or charge them to your student account through Telecommunications. 

Cable TV
Cable is in all residence halls common rooms, but not available in any individual dorm rooms.

SERVICES

Student Address
Every student has the same address: 735 University Avenue, Sewanee, Tennessee 37383.

Student Post Office or SPO
The SPO is in the bottom of the Bishop’s Common and is the location of all student mail boxes.  Students are also able to buy stamps and mail packages at the SPO.  If you want to ship UPS, the BC (Bishop’s Common) front desk offers this services. 

Dry cleaners
The nearest dry cleaner is located in Monteagle, curiously enough it is still named Sewanee Cleaners (423.774.0622).  It was previously located behind the Sewanee Market.  

Gas
Sewanee has one gas station located on University Avenue open until 5:00 PM.  There are more gas stations located in Monteagle.

Film Development (for anyone still using film)
The Tiger Pantry, located next to the bookstore, is the only place in Sewanee where film is developed.  CVS in Monteagle and numerous stores in Winchester including Wal-Mart. 

Hair Services
There are three establishments in Sewanee that cut hair.  The Hair Gallery is located on Lake O’Donnell Road. Beauty by Tabitha is downtown on University Avenue and Styles Unlimited is located just off the highway and University Avenue.  

Car Wash
There are car wash facilities in both Monteagle and Winchester.

Movies
The SUT (Sewanee Union Theater) is located across from the Chapel, in the Thompson Union building, on South Carolina Avenue offers current movies on the weekends, except on Thursday when the Cinema Guild features classic films.  There are also theaters in Chattanooga, Winchester, and Tullahoma.
