"EXPLORING NEW TERRAIN"

The Orientation Committee would like to welcome you to The University of the South and the Sewanee community. We have designed an orientation program to acquaint you with the school’s programs, services, and facilities and to ease your transition to Sewanee. The activities scheduled are for your benefit and will help you better approach your academic and social careers at Sewanee. Please feel free to ask any of us questions during orientation.

Students, advisors, and assistant proctors will meet for an overview of Sewanee's academic program, setting the stage for academic planning and course registration later in the week.

The Rev. Thomas E. Macfie Jr., University Chaplain, preacher.
All Saints’ Chapel is the University Church and as such its ministry is ecumenical and its services are open to everyone. The services of worship in All Saints’ follow the usage of the Episcopal Church. Services are held at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday the college is in session.

Parents are invited to hear Eric Hartman, dean of students, preview the freshman year at Sewanee. Dr. David L. Spaulding, the director of the University Counseling Service, and Mary Beth Walker, the assistant dean of students, will also address the parents.

A panel discussion with students, members of the Sewanee Parents’ Council and the Office of Career Services reflecting on the first-year college experience. Members of the Student Life Cabinet will be available for questions and answers following the panel discussion.

GENERAL INFORMATION SESSION
Essential information about student services and campus life, athletic and recreational opportunities, and social policies is presented during this period. Also, students are introduced to several members of the University administration with whom they will likely have contact, including members of the Student Life Cabinet. The session is designed to be of importance to a student’s success at Sewanee.

6:45 to 8:45 p.m.
EXPERIENCE SEWANEE (Campus Walking Tour)
An introduction to life on the Mountain. Come listen to upperclass students offer insight into maximizing your college opportunities, while minimizing possible negative experiences. The tour ends back at the residence hall home for each AP group for further conversation about living in the dorm community.

Outdoor concert with Tight Noise. Tight Noise is well known on college campuses all over the southeast for their covers of popular rap and hip-hop songs. Weather permitting, the Sewanee Fire Department will launch an Orientation fireworks show at approximately 9:45 p.m.! (Rain location, Fowler Center Field House.)

HYPNOTIST
RICH AIMES is a board certified hypnotist with the National Board of Hypnotist Education and Certification.  As a student of hypnosis, Rich trained in Los Angeles and Florida with some of the top hypnotists in the country. Rich is trained as a stage and commercial actor, appearing on al three U.S. networks, numerous dinner theatre productions, and NHK Japanese television. He has also been seen on local and national commercials. Sponsored by the Bishop's Common Program Board and the Office of Student Activities.
